The 2007 X PRIZE Cup kicks off today at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM! This year the X PRIZE Foundation has teamed up with the Holloman air show to have a joint “Air & Space Expo” instead of two separate events.
One of the signature events at the Air & Space Expo will be the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge, one of the NASA Centennial Challenges. Last year, only one competitor made it onto the field. This year there are rumors of up to nine teams competing for $2 million in prize money. The Space Task Force will give you updates after the competition. May the best teams win!
Until our next live feed, be sure to check out our video update from the launch of STS-120!

With Charles Simonyi on board the International Space Station beginning his 10-day stay, we wanted to take a moment to show you what it’s like to be weightless. Here’s Astronaut Rick Searfoss along with Captain Jon on board G-Force One to give you a look. Special thanks to ZERO-G – Tim Bailey, Rick and Captain Jon.

“Let’s Go!”
These were the words spoken by Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin as he embarked on the historic first manned space flight on 12 April 1961. Twenty years later on 12 April 1981, the US launched the first space shuttle flight. We think that’s something worth celebrating – so we do! Every year on April 12th Yuri’s Night is celebrated all around the world – last year there were over 90 events or parties held in over 30 countries worldwide – and 2007 looks set to be even bigger. The range of events is as diverse as the people who hold them – even the residents of the International Space Station have been known to join in the fun!
Whether in someone’s living room, a swinging nightclub or a world-class science museum, Yuri’s Night events all have one thing in common – people who are excited about space exploration and who want to join together to celebrate it.
